Completed in 2024, this new build Sainsbury’s Hub store is at the heart of a major expansion of the historic town of Winchburgh and provides over 14,500sqft of gross sales area. Also contained in store is an Argos click and collect hub, a bakery and a Changing Places WC facility.
Externally, there is a new 121 space car park which includes 6 accessible spaces, 4 parent & child spaces and 2 rapid (75kW), fully accessible EV charging spaces. To the North of the store there is a new landscaped public plaza to welcome customers to the store from the new residential estates being constructed nearby.
Future considerations include for the expansion of the EV charging provision and the addition of a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) hub.
The store is partly clad in brickwork which is sympathetic to the local vernacular and reminiscent of the bricks manufactured in Winchburgh using local clay from the 1870’s to the 1970’s. The brickwork to the North elevation is laid in a Scottish bond.
The roof of the store is utilised for Photo Voltaic (PV) energy production and is designed to produce approximately 215 kWp. This PV energy production, along with the thermally efficient building envelope and low energy M&E installation results in a Net Zero Carbon or better energy rating for the store.
